Capturing Value

I’m so excited lately about how much extra Value and Capacity can be captured when resources are used more effectively.  I’m thinking about Time Resources and Relationship Resources specifically.

Last night I had a client talk about how she was able to free up her valuable Business Development time by 10 hours per week, but simply delegating portions of her work to an assistant that had been there all along, but never fully utilized.  Why did she hesitate delegating this work?  Bad experiences of delegating in the past.  Now, because she is more skilled at delegating, the assistant feels more purposeful and my client is cleared up to bring higher value work to her customers and her organization... and is happier herself.

Another client gave a great example of Relationship Resource value.  He described how he had been attempting to recruit a valuable employee for his business for a couple of year now.  He had talked constantly to this person about what he wanted, with little effect.  He had given up last November when the person told him, ’No, it’s not happening, I’m staying where I am."  Despite this discouragement, my client tried a new tactic...he began listening and finding out what this person really wanted from life, from a job, from meaningful work.  As a result, he was proud to announce that just yesterday, this person signed an employment contract with him and they are now in business together.  By investment in the Relationship, both are happier.

Imagine if all of us were able to free up more Time and Relationship Capacity by simple investments in thinking of what other people want and then helping them get it.  What a wonderful world it would be.

I am reading a book currently called Revolutionary Wealth by the Tofflers.  This book very clearly explains how our world has evolved to such massive amounts of wealth around us, through Value being added in very unsuspecting ways.  I recommend it highly!
